I have already been doing local SEO work, as my income producing business is 90% local. Thanks for defining a lot of the parameters, and specifically giving more places that are important citation sources on this page – hypnohotshot
Manta and Brownbook are two other sources to consider.
This list is like finding a diamond field in your own backyard. Where have you been hiding these citation sources? I’ve been trying to get my site found in my local area since 2008. I wish I had this list back then.

This list is truly valubale. When I started doing marketing for local businesses a few years ago, many of these citation cites were not well known on the web. I know from watching one of your videos on Expand2Web that this is increasingly important because it helps small businesses get noticed in smaller communities. what do you do when you have duplicate listings in local listings?
Hi Greg – When you have duplicate listings in the actual search engines you have to claim both, report a problem on the duplicate listing, and provide a link to the authoritative listing. Generally speaking, most citation sources don’t allow duplicate listings but you can flag a duplicate listing and request removal from their administrators.
Is there an automated resouce available to create these citations?
Hi Mike – There are two automated resources in the market today including https://www.ubl.org/ and http://www.localeze.com. One caveat of using these services is that the citations that are created only end up having basic business data. If there are already instances of your business profile on these sites, then the feed that these companies use duplicates the listing. We personally generate all of our own and client citations manually. The time spent doing so is well worth the results.

Somebody asked if there was a way to get listed on Dex Knows, http://www.dexknows.com?
Two methods:
1. Contact Dex @ 1.877.433.9249. A more enhanced and personalized ad can be created here for your business, but will cost some to do so.
2. List your business with Local Eze, http://localeze.com/ and a ‘free listing’ will eventually appear on the DexKnows.com website.

You guys might try LocalSearchToolkit.com and Whitespark.ca to find citations and their importance for certain keywords/industries. The list published here is a great start. Also note that the free Localeze listing is not very dependable. You probably want a full paid listing through a channel partner if you are serious about Local SEO

Nice list. Citations are very important elements for top local rankings.
I have seen some businesses appearing in 1 Box just because they have bunch of high quality Citations, mostly from the sites you have listed.
You guys forgot the BEST one. The Better Business Bureau. Check their page rank, Trust rank, etc.. One of the best inbound links you can get firing into your website!

Not all citations are created equally, however. For obvious reasons, Google and other search engines value certain citation sources more than others. Some of these citation requirements are predictable; citations from sources like Superpages or online review sites like Yelp or Angie’s List carry greater weight than citations from one of the many generic business directories that exist on the internet.
Here in Tampa, the BBB and Superpages carry a lot of weight for citations.
